Parish Religious Education Program
At St. Gregory the Great Parish we are committed to our children and their faith formation! The Parish supports St. Gregory the Great School and a weekly Religious Education Program (PREP) to meet the needs of all the children. We baptize our children into the Body of Christ and made promises to help our children grow in faith. At St. Gregory the Great Parish we want to partner with you to keep that promise! If your child, age 4 through 8th grade, is not attending St. Gregory School, we invite your family to be a part of PREP to continue your child’s faith formation. We will be working together to promote knowledge of the faith, grow in prayer, foster community life and share in the sacramental life within the Church. If you have any questions contact Cathy at (757) 497-8330 or
Registration for 2018-2019 PREP will begin the weekend of August 11/12 and will continue through September 10, 2018. PREP classes will resume on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Registration forms will be available on the website or in the church office starting in August.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
All children of the parish starting at age 4 are welcome to participate in this part of the Sunday liturgy during the 9:00 am Mass. No registration is required.
CHILDREN PREPARING FOR RECEIVING THE SACRAMENTS
At St. Gregory children typically prepare for receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance) and First Communion (Eucharist) when they are in 2nd grade. In order for your child to prepare they must be registered for PREP classes or attend St. Gregory School. We also provide a class for those children who may be older in grades 3-8 and need to prepare for the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and 1st Communion. Contact Dr. Cathy Whisman in the Church office if you have any questions.
ADULTS – WANT TO BE INVOLVED WITH PREP?
If you would like to be involved in the wonderful ministry of working with children, please contact Dr. Cathy Whisman for more information. We will be looking for catechists, aides and other helpers for the program. Some teaching or experience with children is preferred for catechists and an interview will be required. We meet on Tuesday evenings and would love to welcome you to this exciting ministry!
